Javier López Nieto, Responsable O&M Onshore España e Internacional at Iberdrola in Spain

Career description - freely formulated by the organiser:

Javier began his path in the renewable energy sector with a focus on operations and maintenance in onshore wind in Spain. Walking across turbines, he learned to listen to machines—to their sounds, vibrations, and signals—and to detect the subtle signs that hinted at deeper issues. Over time, he became a reliable presence in the field, someone technicians trusted to find the root cause of wear, faults, or performance drops.

As his experience grew, Javier’s role expanded. He took responsibility for larger portfolios, integrating solar assets alongside wind. He navigated varied environments—from coastal cliffs to inland farms—and refined his skill in adapting maintenance plans to site-specific challenges. His practical insights helped reduce downtime and manage costs more predictably.

In a later move, Javier stepped into a regional leadership position for Iberdrola’s continental European operations. Now overseeing teams across multiple countries, he shaped service strategies and contract frameworks. Rather than just fixing problems, he led the shift toward proactive maintenance—anticipating issues before they surfaced across a mixed fleet of wind and solar assets.

Javier will moderate the following roundtable:

S1 - Repowering

S2 - Managing O&M Costs

S3 - Access to SCADA & Controller
