Xavier VANWIJCK, Wind Fleet Performance Officer at Engie in France

Career description - freely formulated by the organiser:

Xavier’s journey took flight after graduating from the University of Liège with degrees in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in 1998. He began in the world of aerospace at ONERA in Paris, developing expertise in structural monitoring and environmental surveillance. Yet even then, his curiosity about systems and precision hinted at a future in renewables.

By 2009, he had pivoted into wind energy, joining 3E’s turbine technology team as a structural engineer. Embracing challenges like ice formation and blade fatigue, Xavier engineered solutions to keep turbines running in cold climates. His work led him to XANT—co-founding the company in 2013 to build rugged, efficient mid-sized turbines for remote areas. As CTO, he emphasized simplicity, transportability, and icing resilience—testing blades in Alaska and Arctic labs to prove reliability.

His reputation for performance optimization carried him next to ENGIE, where as Wind Fleet Performance Officer he applied fleet-wide intelligence. He guided teams in unlocking efficiency across international wind assets—leveraging diagnostics, condition monitoring, and data-driven decisions.

Today, Xavier balances technical mastery, strategic insight, and a hands-on personality. From aerospace beginnings to turbine innovation and fleet optimization, he’s built a career blending engineering depth with real-world impact. His story reminds us that renewable energy demands both vision and grit—qualities he continues to bring to every turbine, every project, every team.
